Food. I have so many great memories of food. Family dinners at the cottage with both sides gathered round a pile of freshly caught and fried up pickerel. The aroma of our first barbecue in the deck of our first house as our friends gathered to share our joy of being free from the condo! And my memories as a child – I can almost smell the candy apple at the Exhibition. The gooey sweetness as I crunched into the tart, fresh apple, mixed with the sounds of the midway and kids laughing and screaming with joy. I can smell it, taste it and hear right now as I write about the rest of Savour September at the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market this Saturday.
This event is not only a Cooking Contest. It’s an annual event that you won’t want to miss.
Here’s what’s happening for the Adults this weekend:
There will be a Beer Tasting with Wellington Brewery starting at 11am. Remember the launch of Rhubarb Saison Beer at the Market in June? I still have two in my fridge, waiting for a day when I want to remember summer. Come and enjoy that experience again and talk to the Brew masters and find out the secret to making good beer.
Minimize the work. Maximize the flavour! You can pre-order your Thanksgiving Stuffing Kit – it’s a one stop shop for the stuffing ingredients that will wow your guests. Just cook, serve and wait for the applause!
Someone will be on hand to help you hand-make a fall themed thank you card at our booth with all the tools and fixings you need. What a great thing to add to the hostess gift to thank her for making the turkey!
A local home chef will be on hand making food using local autumn harvest ingredients from the market and our knife sharpener will be on hand that day, so bring your tools to be sharpened.
And while the adults are playing………….
Here’s what’s happening for the Kids this weekend:
Who doesn’t love a cupcake?! At our demo booth our own Jakki Prince from Sweet Temptations will be showing us how to decorate cupcakes. And if you’ve seen Jakki’s cupcakes you will know she is an expert at the craft – the kids will love it!
And at the same booth Julia Mitchell will be talking about canning – it’s a great way to get the kids involved around the kitchen by having them help make jams and preserves. Start the kids off right by helping them learn how they can take the taste of summer and autumn with them right through the winter months. And the reward for a day of canning in the kitchen – luscious sweet jam.
There will be a Kid’s Corner where they can play and make crafts to their hearts content. And they can even make a thank you card too – for Grandma’s collection.
As always our market will have a wide selection of local vendors & pre-made food to eat there or take home for later. Coffee, baked goods, local Kobe Beef hot dogs, Thai food and more!
Come join us at the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market second annual Savour September event and make good memories of your own at our friendly market with our family of vendors. We will be there every weekend along with the food you love, the growers you know, every Saturday from 8am to 1pm until the end of October.
